Thomas Percy Bingham

Born around 1856, the nineteenth year of the reign of Queen Victoria.  He has 13 direct descendants in the family.

The Pacific & Orient

Thomas was a Purser on the P&O Line and spent much of his career working on ships travelling to Asia.
The family moved to Melbourne Australia where Julia Sophia already had aunts living there.

THE OTHER PANAMA CANAL

In 1896 Thomas, Julia and their six children moved to Greytown in Nicaragua where the canal was to be built connecting the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
They had no adequate schools there so Julia schooled the children herself. She spoke French, Catalan and Spanish.

The canal project failed and got built in Panama instead, and eventually the family moved to Managua, the capital of Nicaragua.
