William Ada


Son of William Ada and Sophia Fletcher. .

Born in 1834, the fourth year of the reign of King William IV, and died aged seventy-seven in the first year of the reign of King George V  He has 55 direct descendants in the family.

Founder of the Canada Adas


The eldest son of William Ada, exciseman, William was born in Stonehouse in Gloucestershire.

He emigrated to Canada and in 1880 was Captain of the Corinthian, a steamer of the Ontario & Richelieu Navigation Company on the Great Lakes.

The photo is believed to be of The Corinthian running one of the Rapids on the Port Hope – Rochester route on the Great Lakes, before canals were built to bypass them.
