A brief biography

Martha Ada


Daughter of William Ada and Sophia Fletcher. .

Born in Worthing, Sussex in 1848, the eleventh year of the reign of Queen Victoria, and died aged thirty-nine in Cookham, Berkshire in the fifty-first year of the reign of Queen Victoria  She has 30 direct descendants in the family.

Martha Ada was born on 19 September 1848 in Arundel, Sussex, the 11th of 15 children born to William and Sophia Ada.

She married William Charles Richardson on 25 March 1875 in Cookham, Berkshire.,at the Maidenhead Congregational Church, he ran a grocer's shop across the road from her family's drapers shop in Queen Street, Maidenhead.

She died on 2 August 1888 in Cookham, Berkshire, at the age of 39.

Death after childbirth

Martha died of complications following the birth of Arthur Maurice Richardson, her seventh child, before she was forty.
This photograph is by her brother-in-law, Alexander Grossmann, who was at the time patronised by Prince Arthur, Queen Victoria's third and favourite son.
