A brief biography

Emily Ada

Daughter of William Ada and Sophia Fletcher. .

Born in Alverstone, Isle Of Wight, England in 1855, the eighteenth year of the reign of Queen Victoria, and died aged eighty-eight in the eighth year of the reign of King George VI

Emigrated to Sydney

A few months after the death of both of her parents in 1883, Emily emigrated to Australia, travelling from Plymouth to Sydney on the S.S. Warwick.
The ship stopped over at the port of Tenerife, where it was docked next to a ship conveying convicts to 'some place near New Zealand.' The ship rounded the Cape of Good Hope and travelled along the Australian coast from Adelaide. On arrival in Sydney, the S. S. Warwick was quarantined for three days. As a 33-year old single woman, Emily was sent to the Sydney Depot.

She died in Victoria, New South Wales, at the age of 88.
